About Us

Canterbury Park Saleyards is the most modern livestock selling complex in the South Island.  Designed by stock agents, this purpose-built, fully undercover complex includes an impressive auction auditorium, surrounded by the cattle and sheep pens.  Situated adjacent to the recently completed Christchurch Southern Motorway, the site allows easy access for stock transportation, vendors, and purchasers.  The facility also accommodates the iconic Canterbury A & P Show in November each year.

In 1996, the Canterbury Park site succeeded the Addington Saleyards, to continue an operation spanning 146 years to date as being one of the premier saleyards in the South Island.  Ever since its first sale at the Carlton Hotel site on the corner of Bealey Avenue and Papanui Road on the 18th November 1874, the saleyards have attracted quality stock from across the Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast regions.  Today, Canterbury Park still attracts 180,000 sheep and over 20,000 cattle annually.

Canterbury Park runs weekly prime cattle and a prime and store sheep sale each Tuesday, with regular store cattle sales, along with many annual sales including ram fairs and seed stock dispersal sales.
